Prestel is now available on Viatel (Australia)

For Viatel customers who feel they have thoroughly mastered Viatel, we are pleased to inform you that Prestel, British Telecom's videotex service, is currently available via a gateway on Viatel.

The Prestel Service is located on page *1043# on Viatel.  For those of you who are not sure what a gateway service is - here's a brief explanation: Some databases, like Prestel, are provided by Viatel and Service Providers through the use of External Computers (EC's).  An EC is connected to Viatel by a Gateway and Viatel customers can access it by making a Gateway call.

The Prestel service provides a plethora of information for the Viatel user.  In fact, well over 300,000 pages of additional information covering a diverse range of topics: from consumer, health, tax and legal advice, to local, national and international news.  A notable feature of Prestel is its comprehensive service Micronet.  In addition, all Prestel customers have access to a full range of Prestel facilities, such as Mailbox & Telex links.  Also, Prestel offers tailored services for customers with a specialised area of interest, for instance, Citiservice for business users.

One of the major advantages of the Prestel service is that it provides you with a viable and supplementary information facility to Viatel.  It's reassuring to know our choices for obtaining information are not limited and if you can't locate the information you desire on Viatel, there is a strong possibility it will be found on Prestel.

From page *1043# you can find out how you can test drive the service using two demonstration accounts and you can use these accounts to explore Prestel before subscribing.  Information pertaining to current Prestel charges is also included.
